Yes, it’s that time of the year when we in the Cape prepare for an invasion of either those we love or, as landlords of rental holiday homes, welcome visitors from out of town or abroad. We are lucky to live in a part of the world that is so highly sought after as a holiday resort but this can be a blessing and a curse.
It’s a blessing if you like to get together with family in your home and especially if you are hiring out rental property to visitors, but the curse is that at this time of the year, every year, you need to make your home family, friends and foreigners fit for summer!
Fear not, we have a few great ideas of the types of changes or renovations that you can make to really impress, and try to make your place as maintenance-free as possible.
It starts underfoot
Your floors are the largest area of décor in your home so they need to look great but they also need to be hard-wearing and as low-maintenance as possible. You can go for the slightly more expensive but supremely beautiful Engineered or Bamboo Wood floors but if you are running a guest house hard-wearing (and also very attractive) Laminated or Vinyl floors may be better suited to your needs.
Carpets too add a touch of class and warmth, especially in the bedrooms so don’t discount a great carpet and/or utilising some of the amazingly decorative rugs available right now as a part of your welcoming décor plan!
Adorn your windows and doors
Again combining beauty with functionality and low-maintenance, blinds of all descriptions are Interior Decorator’s favourite ‘go to’ items. Good blinds suppliers offer a wide range of colours, styles and materials that curtains simply cannot match. Further to this, they look as good in a stylish modern home as they do in an office or retail environment and your family and friends will love them!
Shutters too are all the rage right now, offering not only the same kind of stylish beauty as blinds but great security too without having to install ugly burglar bars – often off-putting to foreign visitors!
Take it outside too!
In this day and age of water shortages and generally smaller gardens, and especially if you are renting a property out, a great alternative to lawns (which require continual maintenance) is wooden decking and artificial grass.
Decking is available at good suppliers in both wood and composite decking (generally lower maintenance) so you have more colour and style choices – and the artificial lawn is great for the kids to play on without having mud being carried into the house!
The Flooring company with it all!
We at Libra Flooring started 25 years ago focussed on the sale and installation of great floors, but soon realised that those who need floors often need carpets in certain rooms too and along with floors and carpets a natural progression was to adorn windows and doors.
So, our journey to become a one-stop-shop for all primary décor requirements began, starting with a great partnership with Top Carpets and Flooring, Africa’s largest carpet suppliers, and continuing with the inclusion of incredible blinds and shutters – and even outdoor requirements like decking and artificial grass.
Whatever you need to make your home family, friends and foreigners fit for summer we will have it. Talk to us today, or visit our showroom in Montague Gardens Cape Town and find out how you can benefit from our ‘balance of quality and price!’
