This is the second in our mini series of what to look for when choosing between Solid or Engineered Wood flooring, Laminate flooring, or Vinyl flooring. If you missed the first part, detailing the benefits and applications of wood flooring, then go to our insightful blog page to see it.

In this article, we look at Laminate and Vinyl flooring, then, having a basic understanding of what each of these types of floors can offer you, you can make a more informed decision about what works best for you as a home-owner, guest house landlord, or business owner.

Laminate Floors

Just as beautiful as real wood floors in their own way, Laminate floors are easy to install, hard-wearing and offer a number of benefits to both residential and commercial property owners. They are available in many styles and types, and at Libra Flooring, we offer both the Primafloor range and Krono original.

Benefits and applications

They are definitely more affordable on average than real wood flooring and highly resistant to scratching, fading and dents. With their click-and-lock system, Laminate floors are easy to install and easy to maintain, requiring minimal upkeep.

With only a few limitations, such as less authenticity, by comparison to Solid Wood or Engineered Wood, and being a bit more prone to moisture damage than Vinyl, for instance, one would have to say that their advantages supersede their limitations.

They are really great in high-traffic areas for commercial purposes, and with their easy installation and obvious suitability for those who are a bit more budget-conscious, they are a favourite in renovation projects.

Vinyl Floors

With similar benefits and applications to Laminate floors, Vinyl floors also come in a massive range of styles and colours and are a favourite with home-owners and Designers for their flexibility, durability and affordability!

They are highly water resistant though, giving them an advantage over Laminate floors from that perspective. Both Laminate and Vinyl flooring are hygienically effective and therefore often used in health facilities. Both are also noise reducers.

All round it is a hard choice between these two types of floors, but for wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms, or any commercial applications where waterproofing is a requirement, then Vinyl trumps Laminate.
