Part 2…

In our last article, we started a series giving you some great ideas for 7 low-maintenance spring renovations for guesthouses. This is the best time to renovate just before the very lucrative tourist season in Cape Town, and guesthouse owners know that when renovating they always need to consider options that require the least maintenance.

In the first article, we covered the first four ideas, which were all about various types of flooring, and if you missed it you can find it here – 7 low-maintenance spring renovations for guesthouses (libraflooring.co.za). Now we turn to windows, doors and outdoor areas for our last three suggestions.

  1. Blinds and shutters

Blinds and shutters are not only beautiful to look at, with a massive range of colours and styles to choose from, but they have many other great features too, not the least of which is being far lower maintenance than curtains but just as effective for keeping warmth in and the sun out.

Shutters are also great for security and a far better option than unattractive security gates –   and both blinds and shutters are unlikely to stain, easy to clean, and require minimal upkeep.

  1. Composite Decking

We all know wooden decking to be a great way to create an attractive sundeck, walkways into the garden, or a deck to dine on or braai on in the middle of the lawn. What some guesthouse owners might not know, however,  is that a more recent innovation in decking is composite decking which is considerably less maintenance than its wooden counterpart.

Composite Decking also comes in a wider range of colours and gives you more options from which to choose. If you want more information about this or need assistance in choosing the right wooden, timber, or composite deck type, size or colour, our consultants can assist you.

  1. Artificial Grass

Artificial grass, or lawn, is a fabulous way to not only ensure that your guesthouse looks great in every season, but to greatly minimise the size of that part of the garden that requires maintenance.

You never need to water or mow it, and if you combine decking with artificial grass and use indigenous flora and trees, you will have a practically maintenance-free garden.
